Team will visit Kuwait, Oman and United Arab Emirates during seven day tour
The Marlins organization is set to visit U.S. troops stationed in Kuwait, Oman and United Arab Emirates from January 27 through February 3, 2014. The tour, organized by Armed Forces Entertainment (AFE), will mark the Marlins’ fifth visit to U.S. military personnel stationed overseas. This will be the second time the Marlins visit Kuwait. In 2010, the Marlins became the first Major League Baseball team to take active players to visit U.S. troops deployed overseas. At that time, the group visited military bases in Iraq and Kuwait. In early 2011 players and front office staff traveled to Bahrain, Germany and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Later that year, the Marlins visited Japan, Guam and Hawaii during a 12-day trip.
Representing the Marlins on this tour will be former Marlins Outfielder & 1997 World Series Champion Cliff Floyd, former Marlins Catcher & 1997 World Series Champion Charles Johnson, Marlins Vice President & General Manager Dan Jennings, Executive Vice President of Ballpark Operations & Events Claude Delorme, Director of Community Outreach Angela Smith and two members of the Marlins Energy Team.
The Marlins Visit to the Troops is part of an organization-wide effort to partner with the military. The Marlins recognize the great service our countrymen and women do for our nation every day and have coordinated a variety of military-friendly promotions and initiatives. These include the South Florida Heroes Mondays presented by Outback Steakhouse where military servicemen and women, veterans, police officers, firefighters and all local first responders with proper I.D. can claim free tickets at Marlins Park north ticket office. As part of South Florida Heroes Mondays, the Miami Marlins honor a current police officer, first responder, and armed forces member during games. Also, Marlins offer ticket savings to military and first responders through the Gov X Ticket Offer. The Miami Marlins also team up with Bunkers in Baghdad to provide golf equipment to military stationed overseas as well as wounded warriors and veterans at home. The Marlins are also partnering with Savannah’s Soldiers in bringing back the Letters to the Troops campaign. The Marlins also sponsor Pros vs. G.I. Joes where Miami Marlins Players play Call of Duty on XBOX 360 versus active service men and women overseas.
Throughout the tour, Marlins players, the Marlins Energy Team and front office staff will participate in activities such as baseball clinics, Energy Team Performances, meet and greets and participate in a softball game with U.S. soldiers.
Fans and media can follow the Marlins overseas at the Marlins’ “Beyond the Ballpark” blog at beyondtheballpark.mlblogs.com, website at marlins.com/troops and through the @MarlinsAyudan account on Twitter, as well as through other official Marlins social media channels: facebook.com/marlins and @marlins on Twitter.

Program includes healthy eating and exercise seminars, CPR training and certification
The Marlins Foundation is pleased to announce the second cycle of Compression for Life, a program that teaches heart health and provides CPR and first aid training to the youth at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami Dade.
In 2012, the Marlins Foundation and Catcher Jeff Urgelles launched a CPR class for the kids at the Boys and Girls Club of Miami Dade. This program was inspired by news of Urgelles’ vital role in saving the life of a young woman who had collapsed with cardiac arrest during a Marlins away game in Arizona.
“The Compression for Life Program helps our kids understand and learn the importance of CPR.” shares Alex Rodriguez-Roig, President of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami Dade. “We’re thankful to Jeff and the Marlins for helping make our community a safer and healthier place.”
During the first year of the program, Compression for Life taught the importance of heart health to over 100 youth at the Boys & Girls Club Hank Kline Campus, and provided CPR certification for twenty Boys & Girls Clubs employees. This year, the program will continue with additional support from the local American Heart Association and 911 Education Consultants to offer Compression for Life at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami Dade Kendall Campus.

Four organizations will be selected and each will receive a $25,000 donation along with season long benefits. These benefits include volunteers from Marlins Ayudan, recognition throughout the season at Marlins Park, exposure with media partners and player involvement.
“During the first two years at Marlins Park, the Marlins Foundation invested over $1.9 million in philanthropy in South Florida and over 14,000 hours of volunteer service was completed through Marlins Ayudan.” said Miami Marlins President, David Samson.
